Jul 22, 2024

On 18 July 2024, the Port of Oakland Board of Commissioners in the US approved $19.3 million for the purchase of solar energy from the Grace Solar Facility solar power plant over the next 20 years. The Port of Oakland is a public utility that will resell the renewable energy to tenants, including those at the San Francisco Bay Oakland International Airport and Oakland seaport.

The Port's goal is to achieve zero-emission operations at its seaport and airport. Renewable energy agreements, such as this one, help the Port achieve this goal more quickly.

Under the agreement, the Port will purchase approximately 8 MW of solar power annually from Grace Orchard Energy's Grace Solar Facility in Riverside County, California. 8 MW of power will provide electricity to approximately 6,400 homes annually.

Solar power is one of the primary renewable energy sources used by the Port, along with small-scale hydroelectric, geothermal, biomass and biomass generation. the Grace Solar Facility plant is scheduled to be in service in the summer of 2027, with the Port of Oakland's power purchase agreement becoming effective in December 2027. the Port of Oakland's solar power purchase agreement is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer.
