Polish PV Installed Capacity Reaches 1.3GW

Jan 16, 2020

Polish power grid operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne S.A. (PSE) said on the 13th that as of the end of December 2019, the cumulative installed photovoltaic capacity in Poland had reached 1299.6MW, a year-on-year increase of 175.7%.

According to PSE data, by the end of September, the cumulative installed photovoltaic capacity in Poland was still only 1,007.2MW.

This means that in just three months in the fourth quarter, Poland added about 293MW of photovoltaic projects, far exceeding government expectations. According to previous expectations, the Polish government expects to increase the installed capacity by about 60MW per month for the rest of 2019, thereby increasing the installed capacity to 1.2GW by the end of December.

As of the end of 2018, Poland's photovoltaic power plants in operation were about 486MW, an increase of 214MW in 2018. The strong growth in 2019 is mainly due to the improvement of rooftop photovoltaic incentives and the expansion of the net metering plan for businesses and energy communities. The Polish government also supports commercial and industrial photovoltaic and large-scale solar projects through renewable energy auctions.
