Installed Wind, Solar Power Capacity in EU Up By 2/3 Since 2019
Jun 17, 2024
According to a report released by European energy think tank Ember on 3 June, installed wind and solar power capacity in the EU grew by 65% between 2019 and 2023. Among them, Germany's contribution was the largest, with a growth contribution of 22%, Spain 13%, and more than half of the EU's member states doubled their installed wind and solar power capacity during this period.
Installed solar power capacity in the EU more than tripled to 257 GW between 2019 and 2023, and installed wind power capacity grew by almost a third to 219 GW, increasing the share of wind and solar power in the electricity supply from 17 per cent to 27 per cent over the past four years.
The goal set in the EU Green Deal is to increase the share of renewable energy across the EU to 42.5 per cent by 2030 and to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
