Philippines Approves 27.121 MW Utility-Scale Solar Power Plant For Commercial Operation

Jul 24, 2025

The Philippine energy authorities have officially approved the Dagohoy Solar Power Plant (DSPP), with a total capacity of 27.121 MWDC, to commence commercial operations starting July 16. This marks a major milestone as the first large-scale utility solar power project in Bohol Province, significantly advancing the country's renewable energy transition.

On July 4, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) granted final clearance for the solar facility, followed by the Independent Market Operator (IMO) on July 8, approving the commercial operation date for the plant in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). These regulatory greenlights ensure the project's full integration into the national grid and wholesale electricity market.

The DSPP is part of a broader solar energy investment portfolio under Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC), a renewable energy company backed by Yuchengco Group, in joint venture with Japan-based Taisei Corporation and PetroGreen Energy Corporation (PGEC). RGEC is developing a total of 111.58 MWDC in ground-mounted solar PV systems across four sites in the Philippines.

The other three utility-scale solar power projects include:

·The 19.61 MWDC San Jose Solar Farm in Nueva Ecija, currently pending regulatory approval.

·The 25.01 MWDC Bugallon Solar Project in Pangasinan.

·The 39.84 MWDC Limbaoan Solar Farm in Isabela, both of which are expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

These developments signal growing demand for high-quality solar mounting systems, solar panel structures, and engineering support in Southeast Asia's expanding clean energy sector. As the Philippines continues to embrace renewable energy infrastructure, the role of reliable solar racking suppliers like Wanhos Solar Mounting Systems becomes increasingly essential for fast deployment and long-term stability of photovoltaic projects.
