€190 Million Investment Flows Into Moldova’s First Renewable Energy Auction With 165 MW in Solar And Wind Projects
Jun 30, 2025
Moldova has successfully completed its first large-scale green energy auction, attracting an estimated €190 million in investment. This marks a significant step forward in the country's push for renewable energy development.
The auction awarded contracts for a total of 165 MW in new renewable energy capacity, including 60 MW of onshore wind power and 105 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. All selected projects will benefit from a fixed tariff for 15 years, providing long-term revenue certainty for developers and investors.

The winning bids came from both domestic and international companies. Five wind energy projects will be developed by three companies-two of which are foreign-owned-while six solar PV projects will help address Moldova's current solar capacity gap.
Energy Minister Victor Parlicov stated that the government received more than 40 applications, reflecting strong interest in Moldova's growing clean energy sector. He emphasized that the results demonstrate confidence in Moldova's transparent, predictable, and competitive investment environment.
Driven by progressive energy policies, Moldova's renewable energy capacity reached approximately 580 MW by 2024, covering solar, wind, hydro, and biogas. Clean energy accounted for over 16% of national electricity consumption in 2023 and is expected to rise to 36% by April 2025. According to Moldova's Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan, the country aims to achieve 30% renewable energy in total consumption by 2030.

To support this target, Moldova is introducing land-use reforms, tax incentives, and tailored support programs for various project scales-including net metering for prosumers, feed-in tariffs for medium-sized systems, and competitive auctions for utility-scale installations.
Natalia Bejan, Director of the Moldova Investment Agency, described the auction as a milestone toward market maturity. She noted that the outcome highlights Moldova's appeal to both local and international developers, underlining the country's strategic positioning in the Eastern European clean energy transition.
This auction sets a strong precedent for future solar and wind project development in Moldova and opens new opportunities for companies engaged in solar racking systems, EPC solutions, and grid-connected energy infrastructure.
