The latest statistics from Italy's energy agency, Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE), show that in the first nine months of this year Italy added about 3.5 GW of PV capacity through about 280,000 systems.

At the end of September 2023, the country's cumulative installed PV capacity reached 28.57 GW, of which about 8.44 GW was rooftop capacity and the remaining 16.61 GW came from ground-mounted PV arrays.

Of the new capacity added in the first nine months of the year, about 46% was residential solar power, and the most recent additions have come mainly from commercial and industrial (C&I) and utility-scale projects of 1 MW or more.

The regions with the highest share of new installations were Lombardy (649 MW), Veneto (486 MW) and Emilia-Romagna (361 MW).
