Czech Allocates $177 Million For Solar Rebates

The Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that through tax rebates, CZK 4 billion ($177.1 million) had been earmarked to support PV projects up to 1MW. The government said in a statement that the funds came from the country's national recovery plan, which aims to reduce energy dependence on Russia. We will send out a call on March 22 to select eligible programs, and applications may be sent out by June 30. The Solar plus storage project will also be entitled to participate.
Discounts cannot exceed 35% for solar installations and 50% for storage systems.
In 2021, Czech authorities allocated CZK4.5 billion in rebates. However, in December, the Czech National Environment Fund delayed the deadline for submitting applications. “The deadline for projects below 1MWp has been extended, because the current allocations are not yet available, which means that the interest for ground-mounted projects below 1MWp is lower than the ministry expected,” Jan Kershmash, chairman of the Czech Solar Energy Association, told pv magazine.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, the Czech Republic had 2,073 MW of installed solar capacity at the end of 2020, 13 MW less than at the end of 2019. The state also provides incentives for rooftop PV through a green savings scheme, and solar-plus-storage projects through a separate dedicated scheme.
