Sunseap Signs MoU For 3GW Solar

Sunseap Group Pte Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Riau Island, Indonesia, which will enable it to build a solar park of over 3 GWp with a battery storage capacity of 6,500 MWh.

The Singapore-based solar developer and operator said on Tuesday (April 19) that it intends to install the capacity in the Indonesian archipelago to meet local electricity needs and supply power to Singapore. The plan is part of a wider initiative that envisages the deployment of 7 GWp of solar power capacity on Riau Island.

The MoU provides 3,000 hectares (7,400 acres) of land in the Combol and Citlim Islands of the archipelago. The feasibility study indicated that a 1.4 MW solar power plant could be built at Combol with a 3000 MWh battery storage system, while Citlim could be home to a 1.7 MWh photovoltaic (PV) park with storage The energy capacity is 3500 MWh.

Last October, as a consortium with Sumitomo Corporation, Samsung C&T Corporation, Oriens Asset Management and Durapower Group, among others As part, Sunseap announced plans to implement a 7-GWp project on the archipelago. In addition to several large-scale solar parks, the plan calls for the construction of a 2.2 GWp floating photovoltaic power plant with more than 6,300 MWh of battery energy storage in Tuliang Port on Batam Island.
