Re-quota 1200MW! Malaysia Increases PV System Deployment
Aug 31, 2022
According to foreign media reports, Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Jacob has said that the country's government has approved the reallocation of 1,200MW of renewable energy quotas to photovoltaic resources. This is the first step in strengthening Malaysia's commitment to the energy transition.

He said the Malaysian government expects to create 14,000 jobs and RM6 billion (US$1.4 billion) of investment through the Virtual Power Purchase Arrangement (VPPA), which will help support the development of the renewable energy sector in Malaysia.
He said the new quota would be used to implement schemes under existing mechanisms, which include the New Enhanced Dispatch Arrangement (NEDA) and the Rooftop PV Installation Scheme.
He said the funding would be used to explore new ways of implementing renewable energy schemes, including the development of photovoltaic parks and the supply of electricity for new data centres.
He also said that this would have a new option to procure green electricity supply for businesses through the Virtual Power Purchase Arrangement (VPPA) concept. This measure will be implemented from the fourth quarter of 2022, with a quota of 600MW.
