Italian Government Approves A Further 593MW Of Agricultural Photovoltaic Projects On An Expedited Basis
May 15, 2023
The Italian Cabinet has approved 13 agricultural photovoltaic projects in the southern regions of Apulia and Basilicata.
The Italian Council of Ministers has authorised the start of 13 agricultural photovoltaic projects with a total capacity of 593.6 MW, in order to further simplify the development process for large-scale installations across the country.
Of the approved projects, 12 are located in the southern region of Apulia and the remaining one is planned for deployment in the neighbouring region of Basilicata, none of which require additional environmental impact assessments.
Of these approved projects, one agricultural PV plant is located in the municipality of Stonara, Foggia province, and one 43 MW agricultural PV facility will be built in three different municipalities in Brindisi province.
Another project is planned to be located in the municipality of Manfredonia, near the province of Foggia, and another plant of approximately 53 MW will be opened in the municipality of Serignola, in the same province.
The government has also given the green light to an "agro-natural-solar plant" in the city of Serignola and another 48 MW plant in the city of Stonara.
The agricultural photovoltaic plant in Basilicata will be located in the municipality of Tove, in the province of Potenza.
The Italian government started bypassing regional authorities to authorise some renewable energy projects in March 2022 in response to policy changes in renewable energy licensing. Italy's solar and renewable energy market has shown clear signs of recovery since then. A few months later, in October, the government approved the start of construction of eight renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 314 MW.
