India Reaches 70GW Solar Installation Milestone

As of 30 June, India's cumulative installed solar capacity reached 70.10 GW. of this, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka accounted for more than 50% of the total installed PV capacity.

As of 30 June 2023, India has installed a cumulative 70.10 GW of solar power capacity. In addition, Energy Minister RK Singh reported to Parliament this week that 55.90 GW of PV capacity is still being installed.

Of all the states and UTs in India, Rajasthan leads the pack with 17.8 GW of PV capacity, followed by Gujarat with 10.1 GW and Karnataka in third place with 9 GW.

The National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) estimates India's solar power potential to be around 748 GW, assuming that 3 per cent of India's wasteland is utilised for installing solar power facilities.

Rajasthan has the highest solar potential at 142,310 MWp, followed by Jammu and Kashmir at 111,050 MWp.
