IKEA Enters Photovoltaics! Solar Panels Will Be Sold From Autumn 2022!

IKEA USA recently announced a partnership with SunPower Corp. to provide customers with residential solar solutions. Together with IKEA, the program is called Home Solar. It is expected to launch in select California markets in the fall of 2022.

Javier Quiñones, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, said: "Partnering with IKEA to launch home solar panels will allow more people to have more control over their energy needs, and we aim to provide cleanliness in more IKEA locations in the future. Energy Services, through this program, members of the IKEA Home Loyalty Program have the opportunity to purchase home solar solutions through IKEA's retail stores. This move will make solar solutions more accessible to homeowners as IKEA is a popular choice for their home needs shop.

The estimated size of the U.S. residential solar PV market in 2020 is $9.1 billion, according to Grand View Research. It is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.6% from 2021 to 2028. The California residential solar PV market is growing at a CAGR of 6.1%.

Business Insider suggested that home solar with IKEA in the US would be a direct competitor to Tesla Energy and its residential solar solutions. According to PV Magazine, Tesla is increasingly relying on subcontractors for solar installations. It began to transform from a top solar solutions installer to a full-service technology provider.

In IKEA's case, SunPower will install its solar panels. SunPower's headquarters has been in Silicon Valley since 1985. It offers a diverse portfolio of residential and solar storage solutions.
