Eni Launches First Solar Project In Pakistan

According to a Trend report on November 23, Italy's Eni Group, through its subsidiary Eni Pakistan New Energy Company, established a Bhit photovoltaic power plant in Pakistan, which is the first Eni group's solar project in Pakistan.

The power station was built near the Bhit natural gas plant and aims to provide green energy through off-grid photovoltaic systems to support upstream operations.

The Bhit photovoltaic power station has a peak capacity of 10 MW and is expected to generate approximately 20 gigawatt hours per year.

The energy produced can be used on site, reducing natural gas consumption, and avoiding the emission of about 144,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent during the use of power plants. The photovoltaic power plant works in tandem with the existing power generation system of the Bhit gas treatment plant to optimize operating costs by shutting down an existing gas turbine.

Eni Group made full use of the synergies of its existing resources and set up a company only 6 months after making a final investment decision (FID), and achieved a listing in a short time.

While adding additional value to Pakistan ’s traditional business, the Bhit photovoltaic plant also confirms that Eni Group is committed to implementing a low-carbon solution, where renewable energy can play a key role and improve the energy structure.

Eni Group has been conducting upstream business in Pakistan since 2000, and its interests include: Bhit / Badhra (40%), Kadanwari (18.42%), Latif (33.3%), Sawan (23.68%), Zamzama (17.75%) and Miano (15.16%). Eni Group is also the operator of three offshore blocks and is also active in the midstream sector.
