EDF Renewables Secures 1GW Of Solar And Storage in New York Tender

Jun 14, 2022

EDF Renewables North America has secured 1 gigawatt of solar and battery storage capacity in the latest large-scale Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) tender in New York.

The company said on Friday (June 10) that the award came from three solar photovoltaic (PV) projects with a combined installed capacity of 940 MW, each with 20 MW of co-located battery storage, adding that , the acquired capacity accounted for nearly 40% of the total capacity granted in the tender.

Specifically, the tender will support the construction of EDF Renewables' 2,000-acre 350-megawatt Columbia Solar Park in Herkimer County. The Ridge View complex is another 350-megawatt photovoltaic farm scheduled to be installed in Niagara County, while the 240-megawatt Rick Road solar farm will be built to generate electricity in St. Lawrence County.

The plants are scheduled to come online by the end of 2025 and, when operating at full capacity, meet the needs of more than 243,000 average New York households, EDF Renewables said.

New York's tender, touted as the state's largest land-based renewable energy purchase to date, resulted in the selection of 22 large-scale projects representing 2.4 gigawatts of solar and about 160 megawatts of battery storage capacity. Their implementation is estimated to generate more than $2.7 billion (€2.57 billion) in private investment in New York. (1.0 USD = 0.953 EUR)
