China's Silicon Solar Cell Conversion Efficiency Sets World Record
Nov 23, 2022
From the China Photovoltaic Industry Association was informed: recently, China's photovoltaic enterprises Longi Green Energy independent research and development of silicon heterojunction cell conversion efficiency reached 26.81%, which is currently the world's highest record of silicon solar cell efficiency, and regardless of the technical route, is also the first time in the history of photovoltaics by Chinese photovoltaic enterprises to create a world record for silicon cell efficiency.

Zhang Yuzhuo, party secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology, said the world record was broken, a milestone in the history of China's photovoltaic industry development, not only fully demonstrates the scientific and technological strength of silicon solar cell manufacturing in China's photovoltaic enterprises, but also strongly boosted China's confidence and determination to move to the forefront of the world in more areas of science and technology.
The increase in cell conversion efficiency means that the same area, absorbing the same amount of light, can emit more electricity. Li Zhenguo, founder and president of LONGi Green Energy, introduced that, according to calculations, on top of the 20% conversion efficiency, every 1 percentage point increase in conversion efficiency can save more than 5% of the cost for downstream power stations. It is reported that this is also the latest world record born after five years since the Japanese company set a single crystalline silicon cell efficiency record of 26.7% in 2017.
