Brazil has surpassed 20 GW of distributed solar power. by the end of March this year, the country had surpassed the 19 GW mark.

According to the Brazilian National Electricity Regulator (Aneel), as of 20 April 2023, more than 1.8 million distributed photovoltaic systems were connected to the grid in 5,526 municipalities across Brazil, supplying electricity to 2.4 million consumer units. Of the country's total distributed electricity generation of 20.444 GW, 20.186 GW comes from solar power.

The states of São Paulo (2.741 GW), Minas Gerais (2.653 GW), Rio Grande do Sul (2.131 GW), Paraná (1.901 GW) and Santa Catarina (1.392 GW) have the highest installed capacity of any Brazilian state.

The majority of distributed solar power systems in Brazil are installed on consumer sites. Of these, more than 15.6 GW are installed in 1.5 million systems that provide energy to consumer units at the sites where they are installed. Remote self-generation systems came in second place with a total capacity of 4.4 GW, distributed among 325,000 solar installations. Energy communities, on the other hand, have an installed capacity of just 109 MW, spread over 4,431 systems.

Residential rooftop systems generate 10.2 GW, accounting for just over half of the installed capacity of distributed generation, and are distributed among 1,476,000 systems.
