AfDB Approves €26.5 Million For 62 MW Solar Power Plant in Togo To Advance Renewable Energy in Africa

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) has approved a €26.5 million financing package to support the development of a 62 MW utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Sokodé region of Togo. The project aims to strengthen solar power infrastructure in Africa and accelerate Togo's energy transition.

The package includes a €18.5 million loan from AfDB and an €8 million concessional loan from the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), managed by the bank. French development finance institution PROPACO will contribute additional co-financing. The total investment is estimated at €61 million, representing a benchmark public-private partnership in renewable energy project financing.

The solar plant will contribute to Togo's national objective of installing 200 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. It is expected to reduce dependence on thermal power, improve grid stability, and support universal energy access goals. This project is part of a broader trend in solar energy adoption across developing countries, where reliable solar mounting systems and scalable photovoltaic installations are key to expanding clean energy capacity.

The integration of this PV plant with existing infrastructure reflects the growing demand for efficient, cost-effective solar solutions across Africa.
