First pilot installation of solar photovoltaic panels on elevated road sound barriers in Shanghai
Nov 03, 2022
Sound barriers on both sides of elevated roads are a major measure to reduce noise on city roads and provide a quiet environment for the public.
Unlike other sound barriers on elevated road sections, the recent sound barrier on the south side of the Yan'an Elevated Road near Tongren Road has a new change, with more solar photovoltaic panels on it, which is the first attempt to install clean energy equipment on the sound barrier in Shanghai on a pilot basis.
On the morning of October 31, the reporter drove along the Yan'an Elevated near Tongren Road section, and when he passed this newly installed solar photovoltaic panels near the sound barrier, at first glance, there was no obvious change with other sound barriers.

Subsequently, the reporter looked up under the elevated level and saw 30 black flexible solar panels affixed above the sound barrier here, and to the right of the flexible solar panels were 2 groups of 4 black photovoltaic power rods.

City Road Transport Centre said
This clean energy through photovoltaic power generation, can play a certain energy-saving emission reduction, green low-carbon effect.
The pilot section of the Yan'an elevated photovoltaic grid success, the pilot using "photovoltaic power rods + flexible solar panels" model, the two have their own characteristics.
Among them, the flexible components of the flexible solar panels have the feature of bending, which can be directly installed in the upper part of the sound barrier, matching the curved part of the sound barrier, and can be better integrated with the appearance.
At the same time, the solar panels are lightweight and can be fixed in a variety of ways, including by applying a patch, while the photocatalytic nano-materials sprayed on all surfaces of the photovoltaic modules provide a self-cleaning function for subsequent cleaning and maintenance.
The photovoltaic power rods can be installed by relying on the gantry structure of the transport facility.

It is reported that since the beginning of summer this year, Shanghai's sustained high temperature weather has led to a sharp increase in electricity consumption for production and living, and the city's electricity load has hit a record high. Distributed photovoltaic power generation can effectively relieve the pressure on the power grid, reduce the carbon emissions of electricity production, and powerfully supplement clean energy.
To this end, the City Road Transport Centre, in conjunction with the State Grid Shanghai Electricity Company, organised the installation of "photovoltaic pilot" and selected the Yan'an Elevated as the first pilot, and recently completed the installation of equipment and grid completion, the Yan'an Elevated pilot section is located in Tongren section, involving a total of 2 groups of photovoltaic power rods, flexible solar panels 3 groups (30 pieces), using photovoltaic power generation in the form of full access.
